Abelglass had been running with a traditional NEC phone system for many years which was getting ready for a refresh. The system could no longer be supported under maintenance for any possible faults. It was running with old style analogue phone lines with chargeable calls. After reviewing their needs for the future, Abelglass decided it was time for an upgrade. For this, they contacted their trusted provider Tech Advance, to help them find the right telephone system for the business.

Tech Advance Solution

After discussions with the owners of the business, Dave & Lyndsey Kaye, on what they hoped to get from their new phone system, Tech Advance proposed a new Cloud System with a new broadband connection, designed for VoIP and Data as an upgrade.

Challenges with the Project

One of the challenges Tech Advance faced, was there were no spare data network outlets for the phones to use. The old phone system used old traditional telephone sockets so couldn’t be re used for the new VoIP phones.

Tech Advance overcame this issue however, by liaising directly with their IT provider to upgrade their LAN switches to power over Ethernet so we could connect the phones onto the network sockets supporting the PC’s and then connect the PC’s to the phones; sharing a single outlet.


Tech Advance pre staged the new system at their office and installed on site in just half a day. With no disruption at all on incoming telephone calls. The solution also included a second broadband connection to provide a fail-over solution meaning if the main broadband went down for any reason the PC’s and phones would switch over onto the second broadband connection and continue operating.

Operations Manager, Lyndsey said, “We are delighted with our new upgraded telephone system. We have been struggling for years with the old system. The call-quality was terrible, we struggled to hear our callers which was frustrating for us them, and us. The new handsets provide a much clearer audio and we are finding the new features on the system very useful. We especially like the desk phone application which works on our mobile phones as an application. This is really handy for my colleagues who spend much of their time on the road.
